What is SHAPATH?
Symbiosis Headstart for Awareness, Prevention and Action against Trafficking of Humans.
We at SHAPATH have taken an oath – a SHAPATH, to fight against human trafficking- a growing evil in the society.
The following were the activities by the Shapath team last year
1. Awareness drive in Schools and Colleges: A drive was initiated to spread awareness among students of schools and colleges across Pune through presentations and documentaries. Over 30 schools and colleges were covered in this drive.
2. Panel meet of school and college principals of Pune: A meeting of principals and teachers was arranged to make them aware of the gravity of the situation in Pune and bring out ways to spread awareness among students.
3. Laptop Drive: Carrying forward these activities, a laptop drive was held at all the prominent locations of Pune on 24th and 25th August, 2008. Four hundred students of SCMHRD went to different locations in Pune and gave presentations about human trafficking to educate the masses against this evil.
4. Street play: A street play was staged at various locations in Pune which generated a huge positive response from the bystanders.
5. Seminar: A seminar was also conducted on 29th August, 2008 in which a panel discussion in-volving prominent lawyers, police officers, corporate houses, educational institutes and NGO's was initiated to come out with feasible solutions to combat this critical issue.
6. Peace March: The seminar was followed by a peace march on 31st August, starting from Sym-biosis International University and ending at Budhwarpeth. These activities were done with an aim to sensitize the public, encourage them to accept these victims as a part of our society and to give them a new lease of life.
This year, SHAPATH has planned to take the drive forward, in the following ways:
Shapath 2009 was formally launched to the 2009-11 batch in the last week of July this year. A play depicting Human Trafficking incidents was performed. Also, the plan of action of SHAPATH for this year was communicated to the 2009-11 batch with their roles and expected contribu-tion outlined in it.
A street Play competition among various schools and colleges in India has been planned. Also release of Wrist bands symbolizing ?Fight against Human Trafficking? has been planned for. This year SHAPATH is FOCUSSING on ?Acceptance of Sex Workers? in society.
As an initiative to create awareness and get acceptance in society for the victims of Human Trafficking, SHAPATH has launched a blog. The blog has a link to the registration site, where in-dividuals or organizations willing to help in any way can get in touch with us or post their views, opinions or experiences.
SHAPATH – 2009 Roadmap
Shapath 2009 was formally launched in mid June and a play that depicted Human Trafficking inci-dents was enacted. Also, the milestones that SHAPATH has set to achieve in this year were communicated to the 2009-11 batch and their roles and expected contributions were outlined. SHAPATH aims to increase the acceptance of the sex workers as a part of the mainstream so-ciety this year.
A street Play competition among various schools and colleges in India has been planned. In ad-ditions, release of Wrist bands symbolizing SHAPATH‘s ?Fight against Human Trafficking? has been planned for.
The SHAPATH Team has also launched a blog to serve a platform where ideas can be ex-changed. The blog has a link in the main SHAPTH website, where individuals or organizations willing to help can get in touch with the core SHAPATH team. In addition, individuals can send in articles related to human trafficking, share real life incidents that they / their acquaintances have encountered.
